6 Ways to Solve Error Code 0x80070057

0x80070057 is an error code that generally appears when users try to perform a clean Windows 7 install on their device. However, this error message can be resolved if you follow the troubleshooting methods mentioned in this article. 
This article is about how to fix the 0x80070057 error code on your computer. 
Method 1: Adding a Registry Key Value 
  1. Head to the Start menu and then search for “Regedit.exe” in the Start Menu’s search bar. 
  2. The Registry Editor will show up on the screen. 
  3. Head to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder from the left menu bar. 
  4. Now go the Software folder. 
  5. After that, head to the Policies folder. 
  6. Once you are there, click on the Microsoft folder on the left menu. 
  7. Go ahead and then choose the SystemCertificates folder from the left navigation bar.  
  8. Once you reach there, head to the Edit menu situated on the top.
  9. Hover your mouse cursor over the New option and then press the DWORD Value option. 
  10. Now tap the CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo option and then press the Modify button
  11. Press the 1 key on your keyboard and then tap the OK button. 
  12. Close the Registry Editor window and then reboot your device to experience changes. 
This method has proven to be much more than just basic fix as many users have resolved their 0x80070057 error code only by applying this method. However, for a reason or another, if your device is still affected with the same error code, then see the next method, which is even more effective. 
Method 2: Decimal Symbol Alter Settings
If the previous method failed to fix the 0x80070057 error code, then this might do the work for you:
  1. Press the Start key on your keyboard and then click on the Control Panel. 
  2. Find the “Clock, Language, and Region” option, and then click on it. 
  3. Now press on Region and Language to trigger the configuration window. 
  4. Now choose the Format option and then go to the Additional Settings option. 
  5. You will now see a popup configuration window named “Customize Format,” and there you have to look for the Decimal symbol option. 
  6. Once you locate it, type “.” (dot) in the dialogue box located in the front of it.  
  7. Now hit on the Ok button and again press OK. 
  8. Reboot the device. 
Method 3: Removing Newly Installed Hardware or Software
If you have recently connected a new device to your system, then sometimes it can cause serious malfunctions to your device. This generally happens when a new external device is installed on a computer, for example, a printer, external HDD, or SSD or a fax machine. So make sure to remove any recently installed hardware from your PC and then restart the device to resolve the 0x80070057 error code. Method 4: Scanning System Files via Command Prompt

  2. Search for Command Prompt and then right-click on it from the given results.

  3. Once it is done, you will see the result of the performed command. 
Method 5: Deleting Current System Partition and Making a New 
Sometimes when partitions of your hard drive corrupt, then it can cause the 0x80070057 error on your computer while reinstalling OS. However, this might be fixed without even replacing the HDD. Here’s how to do it:
  1. First of all, you have to install a third-party partition manager utility known as DiskGenius. You can download and install this tool from your internet browser just by searching for it on Google. Make sure to install the tool into the bootable drive. This will allow you to use the tool even after when system boots from the disk. 
  2. Once the program is installed completely, open it. 
  3. Now find the drive which was not able formatted due to the 0x80070057 error message. 
  4. Click on it and then press the Delete button. 
  5. Press the Yes option to confirm your decision. 
  6. Now the selected partition will be removed completely from the hard drive. So make sure to get a backup of the important files in it before performing this step. 
  7. Now the same amount of the free space will be allocated in your hard drive. 
  8. Tap on the free allocated space and then choose the New Partition option. 
  9. Make sure to tick the box located in front of the “Align to Integral Multiples of Sectors” option.
  10. Now click on the OK button. 
  11. Press Save All button to save the newly designed volume. 
  12. Hit the OK button. 
Now the error should be solved once the old partition is deleted and the new one is created. Now try reinstalling the operating system on the newly created volume, and this time, you won’t see any error code similar to 0x80070057.
Method 6: Changing the Name of SoftwareDistribution Folder
SoftwareDistribution is the folder where your system installs and conserves all files and services related to Windows Updates. If you rename this folder, then your operating system won’t be able to locate Windows Updates files, and this might also clear up the 0x80070057 error. Let’s learn how to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder with a step by step guide:
  1. Go to the Start Menu by simply tapping the Start key on your keyboard.
  2. Search for Services and then hit Enter. 
  3. Now in the Services window, find the Windows Update services. 
  4. After that, right-click on the Windows Update service and then choose the Stop option. 
  5. Right-click on the same service once more, and this time, choose the Disable option. This will turn off all services related to Windows Update and SoftwareDistribution folder. 
  6. Afterward, press the Start + R keys together to trigger the Run dialogue box. 
  7. Now enter “%SystemRoot% in the dialogue box. 
  8. Press the OK button. 
  9. Look for the SoftwareDistribution folder and then right-click on this. 
  10. Choose the Rename option to rename the folder. 
  11. Now label it as SoftwareDistribution.old. 
  12. Enable the Windows Update service again. 
  13. Reboot the system and see if the error persists. 
Now the Windows won’t be able to locate the SoftwareDistribution folder, and in the result, this might fix the 0x80070057 error code.
